The Karnataka government has issued the final land acquisition notification for 1,895 acres in Kanchugaranahalli and Byramangala villages of Bidadi Hobli, Ramanagara taluk, for the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT). The notification lists 3,271 landowners eligible for compensation under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act. Landowners may choose developed sites instead of monetary compensation. The GBDA plans a ‘work-live-play’ township model between Bidadi and Harohalli in Bengaluru South district. The project faced opposition from farmers fearing loss of land and livelihood. A committee led by Justice Guhanathan Narendar was formed to review the project’s aspects.
