Karnataka HC Strikes Down 56% Reservation Law for SC/ST

On October 12, the Karnataka High Court ruled the 2022 law increasing SC/ST reservations to 56% unconstitutional, as it breached the 50% reservation cap set by the Constitution. The court struck down Sections 3 and 4 of the Karnataka SC/ST Reservation Act, 2022, stating the increase violated Articles 14 and 15. The law had raised SC quota from 15% to 17% and ST quota from 3% to 7%, while OBC reservation remained 32%.
