Karnataka HC Orders Bescom to Refund Rs 2.81 Lakh to Retired Engineer

The Karnataka High Court directed Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) to refund Rs 2.81 lakh withheld from retired junior engineer N Manjunath. Bescom had recovered the amount, claiming it was an erroneous annual increment paid 15 years ago. Justice M Nagaprasanna ruled the recovery unlawful, citing Supreme Court precedents that excess payments without employee fraud cannot be reclaimed.

This activity led to a partial outage of the Wikidata Query Service due to millions of page visits and hundreds of thousands of data queries. Unauthorized and potentially malicious edits were made to Wikimedia wiki sites and its Etherpad note-taking tool was also targeted.

Sumitomo Corporation from Japan will invest in a 500 MWp solar and wind project with a 200 MWh battery storage system in Bidar, Karnataka.
