Judge Who Gave 23 Death Sentences Transferred to Muzaffarnagar Family Court

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who awarded 23 death sentences in 11 cases over six months, has been transferred to the family court in Muzaffarnagar by order of the Allahabad High Court. Diwakar, formerly presiding over a fast-track court, was appointed Additional Principal Judge of the family court. Shiv Kumari will replace him in the fast-track court. Diwakar had recently questioned administrative withdrawals of serious cases and raised concerns about judicial independence.

Moscow to Host 2030 World Weightlifting Championships

Moscow will host the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships, the first major Olympic sports event awarded to Russia since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the International Weightlifting Federation announced. Ahmedabad, India, will host the 2029 edition. The 2030 Moscow event will also serve as a qualifier for the 2032 Olympics. Russian Weightlifting Federation president Aleksandr Vinokurov praised Russia's infrastructure and experience for hosting.

Man and Friends Arrested for IED Attack on Cousin in Bengaluru

Police arrested a man from Assam and his two aides for plotting to kill his cousin in Bengaluru over a land and money dispute.
