In September 1999, Jordan sank a retired American-built M42 "Duster" anti-aircraft tank off the coast of Aqaba to create an artificial reef. The 5.8-meter-long tank, formerly used by the Royal Jordanian Army, now serves as a habitat for coral, sponges, and fish. It is the second most famous diving site in Aqaba, attracting divers and snorkelers. Aqaba authorities continue to promote artificial reefs to support marine life recovery.
