WorldJohn Denver's Colorado Land Remains Protected After Sale
In 1979, musician and environmentalist John Denver purchased 957 acres in Colorado, known as the Windstar estate, intending to create an environmental research facility with staff housing. Originally a sheep ranch and monastery retreat, the land was sold later, but 927 acres remain protected by a perpetual conservation easement established in 1996. Aspen Valley Land Trust and Pitkin County Open Space and Trails oversee this protection, preserving vital wildlife and wetlands habitat.
