Japan Uses Coal Ash to Support Hakucho Ohashi Bridge
In the 1980s, engineers constructing the Hakucho Ohashi Bridge in Hokkaido, Japan, faced the challenge of building foundations for the bridge's two main towers on a soft seabed 14 to 17 meters underwater. To solve this, they buried coal ash beneath the sea, which decades later continues to support the bridge's structure effectively.
