Jamaat President Calls Omar Abdullah-Nidhi Razdan Marriage Unlawful Under Sharia

Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, president of All India Muslim Jamaat, declared the marriage between Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and journalist Nidhi Razdan unlawful under Sharia law. He stated that for a nikah to be valid, both partners must be Muslim. Since Nidhi Razdan is not Muslim, the cleric termed the marriage 'najaayaz' or unlawful, adding it would be permissible if she had converted to Islam before the marriage.
