Israel's President Isaac Herzog has chosen Gadi Eisenkot over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a new government after a deadlocked election. Neither candidate won a majority in the Knesset. Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar party, was informed Saturday night and will be formally appointed Sunday in Jerusalem. Eisenkot called for a national emergency government and pledged to do his best. Netanyahu remains the longest-serving prime minister but lost his coalition majority in the October 27 election.
