A restoration project on Isle Royale, a national park in Lake Superior, successfully established a self-sustaining wolf population by 2023, five years after starting in 2018. The effort began when only two nonbreeding wolves remained. The study, published in Conservation Science and Practice, also used computer models to predict the wolves' survival odds over the next 20 years. Wolves have been studied on the island since 1958.
