IRDAI mandates four-layer motor insurance from December 2026

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has introduced a new four-layer motor insurance framework effective from December 15, 2026. This framework separates mandatory third-party liability and personal accident cover from optional add-ons. Insurers must provide a Customer Information Sheet and obtain an option form for each policy. Policyholders can also add occupant liability cover anytime by paying an extra premium.
