Iran's parliament approved Mehrdad Akhlaqi as the new defence minister with 237 out of 277 votes, ending months of interim leadership. Akhlaqi succeeds Majid Ebn al-Reza and takes charge nearly eight months after former minister Aziz Nasirzadeh was killed in US-Israeli strikes. He is a defence industry veteran with 42 years of experience, appointed amid rising US-Iran tensions and efforts to rebuild Iran's military capabilities.
