Intensive parenting, once mainly associated with wealthy families, is now common across income levels in the US. Parents increasingly invest in activities like sports, music, and coding for their children. In 2024, American families spent an average of $1,016 on a child's main sport, a 46% rise since 2019. Parents also spend over 15 hours weekly supporting sports, similar to a part-time job. In Asia, private tutoring remains widespread, with 75% of South Korean schoolchildren taking paid lessons in 2025.
