Industrialist R Veeramani Booked in Eighth POCSO Case

The Special Investigation Team registered an eighth POCSO case against R Veeramani, chairman of Gem Group, based on a complaint from a minor survivor alleging sexual assault at his Gopalapuram residence. Seven cases are already pending. LOC notices were issued against five accused or suspected accomplices to prevent their travel abroad. Veeramani and associates Shanthi, Mahandra Simhan, and Ganeshan are in custody undergoing interrogation.

Comedian Masoom Rajwani Detained at Sahil Wakode Vigil in Mumbai

Stand-up comedian Masoom Rajwani and several others were detained by Mumbai Police during an unauthorized candlelight vigil for IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode, who died by suicide last month. About 140 people were taken into preventive custody at Shivaji Park and Chaityabhoomi. Around 120 protesters at Shivaji Park and 20-25 at Chaityabhoomi were detained for lacking permissions. Authorities are processing their release.
