Indian Railways has improved train punctuality from 69.2% in 2018-19 to 77.43% in 2025-26 through better monitoring, schedule adjustments, maintenance, and infrastructure upgrades. The current fiscal year 2026-27 shows 77.11% punctuality. The railways clarified that comparing pandemic years with normal years is misleading, as fewer trains ran during COVID-19, causing abnormally high punctuality then.
