The Indian Navy has signed contracts worth ₹1,950 crore to accelerate homegrown technologies using a prototype-led 'spiral development' model. Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar said this approach allows testing and upgrading prototypes in operational sea conditions, bypassing the need for fully finished hardware initially. Under the iDEX Swavlamban program, 229 challenges were launched, receiving over 4,000 proposals from 150 startups and MSMEs, with AoNs exceeding ₹3,500 crore.
