On May 27, 1997, an Indian MiG-25 jet crossed into Pakistani airspace over Islamabad at 65,617 feet, flying at Mach 2.4. The sonic booms from the jet caused explosions heard across several Pakistani cities. Pakistan blamed India, but India initially denied the incursion. Retired Wing Commander Pradeep Jaswant Thakur confirmed the mission's authenticity, stating the jet did cross the border at high speed.
