Indian stock markets faced a sharp decline this week, with the BSE Sensex dropping 1,147.15 points (1.58%) to 71,333.14 intraday and closing at 71,909.70, down 570.59 points. NSE Nifty50 fell 390.40 points (1.73%) to 22,230.05 intraday and closed near 22,421. Midcap and smallcap indices fell over 1%. Market volatility index India VIX rose 13.82% to 15.36. Foreign investors sold shares worth over Rs 10,148 crore on September 30, contributing to the decline. Market capitalization dropped by about Rs 10.08 lakh crore to 461.77 lakh crore but recovered slightly to 466 lakh crore by close.
