India's aviation industry is projected to face losses of ₹36,000 to ₹38,000 crore in the fiscal year 2026-27, up from an estimated ₹28,000 to ₹30,000 crore last year, according to ICRA. Rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices, a weaker rupee, and disruptions from the West Asia conflict have increased financial pressure on airlines. Domestic air passenger numbers fell 6.5% year-on-year in September, while international traffic dropped 19.3% in the first half of FY 2026-27. ATF prices rose 46.2% year-on-year in October, significantly increasing operational costs.
