Shuchita Patel, an Indian-American Democrat, is running for Forsyth County Commissioner in Georgia's mid-term elections on November 3. Forsyth County has a history of racial violence and was once dominated by the Ku Klux Klan, which drove out nearly all Black residents in 1912. Patel is the first Indian-American candidate in the county, challenging a Republican opponent who has been unopposed for 16 years.
