PoliticsIndian Air Force Faces Fighter Squadron Shortfall, Eyes Autonomous Wingmen
At the October 3 Air Force Day press conference, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh highlighted the Indian Air Force's urgent need for two new fighter squadrons annually to stop its declining combat strength. Currently operating about 30 squadrons against a sanctioned 42, the IAF is at its smallest since 1962. The IAF faces near parity with Pakistan's 440 fighters and is outnumbered by China's 2,200+ aircraft, including advanced stealth J-20s.
