BusinessIndia-US Trade Talks Reach Difficult Plateau, Says FM Sitharaman
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that India-US trade negotiations have reached a plateau, making further concessions very difficult. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference in New Delhi, she noted the talks have been rigorous and ongoing. Addressing the US trade deficit of around $34 billion with India is a key issue, with the US seeking to maximize gains to offset past losses. Sitharaman highlighted that the trade imbalance is now being addressed by other means beyond tariffs.
