The Ministry of Road Transport in India is preparing to tighten the vehicle scrap policy to curb rising pollution. Strict standards for equipment used at scrap centers will be introduced to prevent arbitrary scrapping. The notification is expected this year, with new rules effective from next year. So far, 194,000 vehicles have been scrapped at registered centers by 2026-27. Uniform, modern equipment will be mandatory for all registered scrap centers.
