BusinessIndia to Revise GDP Calculation with Expanded Consumption Data
India will adopt a more accurate GDP assessment method, expanding the scope of private final consumption expenditure (PFCE) from 46 to about 128 items. The new 2022-23 base year series will include detailed spending on food, clothing, housing, transport, entertainment, education, and healthcare. It will also cover vehicle purchase, maintenance, and travel expenses, based on studies in six states and Delhi-NCR. Changes include reclassifying butter and ghee under oils and fats, and ice cream under sugar and desserts.
