The Indian government plans to implement new Bharat Stage-7 (BS-7) emission standards nationwide starting April 2029, aligned with Euro-7 norms. The Ministry of Road Transport has proposed amendments to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, seeking public feedback. BS-7 will impose stricter limits on pollutants, initially applying to cars and SUVs, then small commercial vehicles from 2030, and buses and heavy commercial vehicles from April 2031. On-board monitoring will track real-time emissions, and brake and tire particle limits will start from April 2031.
