India-SACU Trade Pact Could Lead to Broader India-Africa Agreement
South Africa's high commissioner to India, Anil Sooklal, stated that the proposed preferential trade agreement (PTA) between India and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) could serve as a model for a larger India-Africa trade deal. SACU includes South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, and Eswatini. The PTA, expected to be finalized within a year, will cover market access, customs, trade facilitation, and dispute resolution, marking India's first trade pact with an African regional bloc.
