India's Overseas Oil and Gas Output Drops Over 12% in Five Years

India's production of oil and gas from nearly 48 overseas assets fell by more than 12.3% over five years, reaching 19.2 million metric tonnes of oil equivalent (MMTOE) in 2025-26, according to government data. While domestic output rose from 59.2 MMTOE in 2020-21 to 62.7 MMTOE in 2025-26, overseas production declined from 21.9 MMTOE to 19.2 MMTOE, reducing its share from 37% to 30.7% of domestic output. A parliamentary panel urged increased investment abroad to enhance energy security as India imports over 88% of crude oil and about 50% of natural gas.
