India's gold demand fell 29% year-on-year to 162.5 tonnes in the July-September 2026 quarter due to higher import duty, rising prices, and the Prime Minister's appeal to reduce purchases, according to the World Gold Council. Demand was 229.8 tonnes in the same quarter of 2025. Despite lower volume, the value of gold demand rose 3% to ₹2,41,900 crore, with average prices increasing significantly.
