India’s Crude Import Bill Rises 46% in September Amid High Oil Prices
India’s crude import bill surged 46% year-on-year in September, reaching $15.4 billion despite only a 7% rise in import volumes to 21.7 million tonnes. Elevated oil prices, with the Indian crude basket averaging $116.09 per barrel, drove the increase. During April-September 2026, imports were 122.7 million tonnes, with the import bill jumping to $90.6 billion from $61.9 billion last year.
