India's sale of the indigenous Akash surface-to-air missile system to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan signals a major step in becoming a global arms exporter. This move opens Central Asia to Indian defence technology, diversifying suppliers away from Russia and China. Previous sales to Armenia and the Philippines highlight growing export potential. The Akash missile symbolizes India's shift from import dependence to promoting indigenous defence manufacturing internationally, despite ongoing policy challenges.
