India’s food market, valued between $550 and $600 billion, is expanding at a 6–7% compound annual growth rate, driven by economic growth and urbanization, said Devesh Deval, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Food processing contributes nearly 8% to manufacturing gross value added, creates jobs, attracts investment, and adds value for farmers. The government aims to boost processing across 16 sub-sectors to benefit farmers, focusing on cereals, meat, fruits, vegetables, and dairy.
