India Responds to UN Criticism on Protests and Human Rights
India reaffirmed that Article 21, habeas corpus, the NHRC, State Human Rights Commissions, independent media, and civil society provide safeguards and transparency against enforced disappearances. It called enforced disappearances grave violations, urging prevention, accountability, and protection of civil society. India noted it signed the Convention on Enforced Disappearances and stressed law enforcement must follow the law. It called for dialogue, cooperation, non-selectivity, and transparency in engagement.
