India Proposes BS-VII Vehicle Emission Rules Including Brake and Tyre Pollution
India's proposed Bharat Stage VII (BS-VII) vehicle emission rules aim to tighten pollution controls beyond exhaust emissions. The draft retains limits on carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter but adds on-road emissions testing and checks on pollution from brakes and tyres. The phased rollout will begin with cars in April 2029. The rules also include battery durability tests for electric vehicles and require testing under realistic driving conditions.
