India Probes Diageo and Pernod Over Scotch Concentrate Tariff Claims
Indian authorities are investigating Diageo and Pernod Ricard for allegedly misclassifying bulk Scotch concentrates to claim a lower 75% import duty under the India-UK free trade agreement. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence searched their offices and questioned executives. Officials say bulk concentrates should face the full 150% tariff. The probe focuses on imports used to blend popular Indian whisky brands like Royal Stag and McDowell’s. Both companies are cooperating with the investigation.
