India aims to increase its battery energy storage capacity to 236 GWh by 2031-32 to support renewable energy integration. The government has approved 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) under the Green Energy Corridor and launched a Rs 50,000-crore incentive scheme for BESS deployment. This initiative is part of a larger Rs 1.86-lakh crore renewable energy and transmission program, expected to create 20 lakh jobs. Discussions focus on advancing domestic battery technology, grid-scale storage, and smart grids.
