SportsIndia Hosted the First Asian Games in 1951
The first Asian Games were held in New Delhi, India, from March 4 to March 11, 1951. About 489 athletes from 11 countries participated in six sports including athletics, aquatics, basketball, cycling, football, and weightlifting. The event took place mainly at the National Stadium. Japan topped the medal table, followed by India and Iran. India hosted the Games again in 1982.
