India Halts Sugar Diversion for Ethanol in 2026-27
India has directed oil marketing companies to stop diverting sugar for ethanol production by 2026-27. This move responds to rising sugar prices and concerns about domestic supply due to poor rainfall. Ethanol from sugarcane juice and sugar-based feedstocks will be excluded from the latest tender. The government aims to increase sugar production and reduce oil imports through this policy.
