India Extends Cotton Import Duty Exemption Until December 2026
The Indian Finance Ministry has extended the exemption from import duty on cotton until December 31, 2026. This move provides relief to the textile industry, the largest consumer of cotton. The exemption, initially granted in May 2026 and set to expire in October, was extended due to low cotton arrivals caused by a poor Southwest monsoon. The textile sector expects increased cotton consumption this year and has called for permanent removal of the import duty.
