India Expands Domestic Tunnel Boring Machine Production Amid China Curbs
India is enhancing its domestic tunnel boring machine (TBM) manufacturing as work advances on the 125-km Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway line in the Himalayas. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated India currently produces 8-metre and 15-metre TBMs and aims to build machines over 16 metres. The project includes 16 tunnels and 19 bridges, with 83% of the route through tunnels, amid new Chinese technology restrictions.
