India Develops Indigenous Tunnel Boring Machine Technology

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India is building indigenous capabilities in Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) technology to support infrastructure growth. India, previously reliant on imports, now manufactures TBMs with diameters of 8 and 15 metres and plans to produce machines over 16 metres. Manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu and growing expertise are creating a full TBM ecosystem from design to maintenance, advancing the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
