India has constructed an animal overpass nearly one kilometre long that spans a highway, rail yard, and golf course to protect the western hoolock gibbon, the country's only ape besides humans. Found mainly south of the Brahmaputra river in Northeast India, hoolock gibbon populations have declined by 90% due to habitat fragmentation caused by roads and railways.
