India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways amended the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to allow flex-fuel vehicles running on blends up to E100 (nearly pure ethanol). Emission certification now includes E100 alongside E85. Vehicles must meet safety and emission standards. The government also raised the weight limit for light petrol and diesel vehicles from 3,000 kg to 3,500 kg, supporting ethanol fuel use and reducing crude oil imports.
