BusinessIndia Aims for Self-Reliance in Shipping and Shipbuilding by 2047
India plans to conduct all its export-import trade using Indian-flagged and domestically built ships by 2047, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign shipping and become a major maritime power. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal outlined the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, targeting a self-reliant maritime ecosystem including ports, shipbuilding, and maritime education. India also aims to expand port cargo capacity to 10,000 million tonnes by 2047.
