In Bhilwara Village, Ravan Is Symbolically Killed, Not Burned
In Ropa village, Bhilwara's Shahpura area, Dussehra is celebrated uniquely by symbolically killing Ravan instead of burning his effigy. A 10-foot cement statue of Ravan, built about 100 years ago, is repainted annually. On Dussehra, children enact Ravan Vadh with a bow and arrow, attracting crowds and earning the village the nickname 'Ravan ka Gaon.' The tradition spans two days, including a Lanka Dahan procession.
