Illinois Volunteers Restore 43 Acres with Native Plants and Seeds
In northeast Illinois, volunteers restored 43 acres of the 607-acre Greenbelt Forest Preserve, located between North Chicago and Waukegan. They planted 9,000 native plants and spread 1,100 pounds of seed to combat invasive species like teasel, Canada thistle, canary grass, buckthorn, and common reed, which had displaced native vegetation in the area.
