A new study analyzing 58,318 outbreaks of 32 infectious diseases across 169 countries reveals that human activities like deforestation, agriculture, and urban expansion are changing the geography of disease spread. Fragmented forests force wildlife closer to human settlements, increasing contact and the risk of zoonotic diseases such as COVID-19, Ebola, and Mpox. The research highlights complex environmental factors behind disease emergence.
