HealthPhoto: HT HealthHow Altitude Sickness Affects Your Ears and Hearing
Traveling to high altitudes can cause temporary ear discomfort and hearing changes due to pressure differences between the middle ear and outside air. Dr. Punam Kumari explains that as altitude increases, lower outside pressure pushes the eardrum outward, causing fullness until the Eustachian tube equalizes pressure. Descending causes the opposite effect, often harder to tolerate. These effects are usually small and temporary.
