Amateur historian James Bailey uncovered colonial documents suggesting Thomas Jones, the namesake of New York's Jones Beach, aided pirate Captain Henry Every in the 1695 raid of the royal Indian treasure ship Ganj-i-Sawai. This violent attack sparked the first global manhunt for pirates. Jones Beach is now New York's second most visited state park after Niagara Falls.
