PoliticsHigh-Level Committee on Demographic Changes Requests Religion-Based Data from States
The High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes, formed by the Home Ministry on May 26, 2026, has requested states to provide religion-based data on births, vehicle registrations, school enrollments, and property transactions over the past 15 years. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi accused the Modi government of using this data to undermine Muslim rights rather than for their welfare. The committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar, studies population changes due to illegal immigration and other factors and suggests solutions.
