Hidden Van Gogh Self-Portrait Discovered in Edinburgh
In 2022, conservators in Edinburgh discovered a hidden self-portrait of Vincent van Gogh on the back of a canvas during routine X-ray examinations before an exhibition. The portrait was concealed under layers of glue and cardboard for over a century. This finding reflects Van Gogh's practice of reusing canvases due to financial struggles. Efforts are ongoing to reveal the portrait without damaging the original painting. Visitors can view the X-ray image of the hidden artwork at the exhibition.
